The Foundation extended financial support to the Hwa Chong Integrated Boarding Programme for Hwa Chong Institution (HCI) students under the Ministry of Education’s Financial Assistance Scheme (MOE FAS). Total funding of S$25.1k was disbursed to ensure that eligible students are able to benefit fully from a holistic residential and educational experience.
Recognising student excellence
The Foundation recognised outstanding student achievements among HCI high school students through these awards:
- Tooh Fee San All-Round Excellence Award
- Xue Yong Shu Model Student Award
- Zheng An Lun Model Student Award
- Sportsboy for “C” and “B” divisions
These awards celebrate academic achievement, character, leadership and service among HCI high school students.
At the college level, the Foundation supported:
- Hon Chiew Weng Science Research Award
- Sports Boy and Sports Girl of the Year Awards
These recognise excellence in research, athletic achievement and the pursuit of holistic development among HCI college students.
The Hwa Chong Foundation – Resilience and Excellence Award was established in 2022. It recognises students who are strong in character, exhibit resilience and diligence, and are academically accomplished. Awardees are selected from among graduating students from HCI (College) and Hwa Chong International School (HCIS) IB Year 2. Awardees are nominated by respective schools and endorsed by the Foundation.
Community initiatives
The Foundation supported Project Liberi in its collaboration with New Life Stories, advancing values-aligned humanitarian efforts that promote social inclusion, dignity and community upliftment. This initiative reflects the Foundation’s commitment to supporting charitable programmes that embody Hwa Chong values beyond the school community.
School facilities
Subject to limits set by its board, the Foundation may contribute to the capital expenditure of the Hwa Chong family of schools, supporting the expansion, improvement and maintenance of their facilities and programmes for the benefit of students and staff.
The year ahead
The coming year marks a transition for the Foundation from establishment to activation, as it begins the phased roll-out of programmes aligned with its vision, mission and core values. Guided by proposals developed by the Programmes and Events Committees, the Foundation will prioritise initiatives that support holistic education, character development and community service within the Hwa Chong ecosystem. In evaluating and approving programmes, emphasis will be placed on strategic fit, impact, sustainability and prudent use of resources.
What the constitution allows
The constitution also allows the Foundation to grant awards, scholarships and bursaries; fund educational programmes; run character and humanitarian initiatives; advance staff training and welfare; and aid educational, cultural, community and sports institutions.
